This monument, which is actually a reliquary, was erected by the Viceroy Sten Sture the Elder in gratitude for his victory at Brunkeberg, near Stockholm, in 1471 over King Kristian I of Denmark. Executed by Master Bernt Notke of Lübeck, it was consecrated on New Year's Eve 1489 in Storkyrkan, Stockholm, by a papal envoy.
